Jassim Muhammad al-Budaiwi, currently Kuwait's ambassador to Washington, has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). He will assume charge on Feb. 1.
Dr Nayef Falah Mubarak al-Hajraf, the outgoing Secretary-General welcomed al-Budaiwi, congratulating him on his new appointment, wishing him success in his new position.
Al-Budaiwi received his bachelors degree from the University of Utah in 1991. In 1992 he was appointed as a diplomatic attache at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 1993 he obtained a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Oxford.
Al-Budaiwi was honoured during a ceremony held by 'Soul City' magazine and 'NDN News', when he was serving as ambassador to Seoul, and was awarded the 'Best Ambassador' award for his efforts in developing relations between South Korea and the State of Kuwait.
