The Open Blitz Chess Tournament organised by the Qatar Chess Training Center under the supervision of the Qatar Chess Association (QCA) concluded with 94 players taking part in the event.
The competition was held in the blitz chess method according to the Swiss system of nine rounds of three minutes and two seconds per move, in the presence of Mohamed al-Mudahka, president QCA.
The Philippines’ Loyola Rawlinson claimed the title garnering 8.5 points ahead of runners-up Syed Abdul Qadir of India. Argentina’s Christian came third while Egypt’s Mahmoud Badr finished fourth.
Ryan Mendouza was 5th, Algeria’s Jamal Verhi 6th while India’s Albin Sajjan and Syria’s Mohamed Ptah ended 7th and 8th respectively.
Mudahka said the tournament witnessed great excitement among the participants, and this began clearly with the convergence of points at the end of the competitions, pointing out that the tournament had a large participation.
He said, “the establishment of such various activities and events on an ongoing basis has several positives, including expanding the game further in Qatar and preparing a conscious chess generation that is able to honourably represent our national teams in international events stressing that the coming period will witness many important and powerful tournaments that will organised by QCA.”
