Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF) held the first meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Education Research Award for the 2022-2023 academic year, organised by the foundation for the seventh year in a row in co-operation with the College of Education at Qatar University (QU).
The meeting was held in the presence of HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the award and founder and chairman of the Board at Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation; HE Sheikha Dr Hessa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, dean of the QU College of Education; Dr Salem Al-Naemi, president of the University of Doha for Science and Technology; Dr Khaled al-Horr, president of the Community College of Qatar; Abdul Latif al-Yafei, general manager of Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation; Prof Dr Ahmed Majriya, assistant dean for Research and Graduate Studies, QU College of Education; and Mona El Helbawi, general manager of the Education, Culture and Sports Sector at Al Faisal Holding, ARIES (Al Rayyan Investment in Education and Sports) Cluster.
At the opening of the meeting, HE Sheikh Faisal welcomed the attendees and affirmed his keenness to support the award and make it one of the most distinguished international educational awards, in line with the vision of the foundation as well as Qatar National Vision 2030.
He also expressed happiness that the award covers the entire Arab world, which allows many researchers and educators from all Arab countries to participate in it and enrich the education sector with good scientific research.
In the same context, HE Sheikha Dr Hessa praised the efforts made through the award over the past years, highlighting her enthusiasm to make the award one of the most notable educational research awards at both the internal and external levels.
Dr Al-Naemi and Dr al-Horr joined the Board of Trustees of the award.
Dr Al-Naemi expressed happiness on this occasion, saying it is one of the best awards which support educational research. The research this year is distinguished and of high quality, which indicates the spread of the culture of educational research within the Arab world, and this is what the award seeks to achieve.
Dr al-Horr also stressed his happiness to join the award’s Board of Trustees, and highlighted the quality of the contributions received by the award this year. The award is given annually to researchers from all over the Arab world. He also congratulated the winners of the award this year and wished better luck to all participants in the coming years.
Prof Dr Majriya discussed data related to the award and the number of research papers that have been dealt with by the arbitration committee since the inception and launch of the award in 2016 until 2022. The number of participants has increased since 2016, reaching 384 participants across all categories in 2022.
Al-Yafei reviewed the agenda of the meeting and talked about the origin and development of the award as well as the goals that the foundation seeks to achieve, which are in line with ALF's vision and Qatar National Vision 2030.
At the end of the meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the results of the winners for the 2021-2022 academic year, who numbered 10. They will be honoured at a ceremony that will take place in the first week of March.
The meeting also agreed to enhance the rewards for postgraduate students and to bring back the undergraduate students category in order to encourage university students to research in the educational field, which will benefit them scientifically and raise their efficiency.
Further, it approved inviting winners from outside Qatar, including a number of education faculty deans from universities in the Arab world to attend the honouring ceremony.
