Qatar participated in the 2nd edition of the Municipal Investment Forum (FURAS), which was organized by the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the period from Jan 24-26. HE the Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie headed Qatar's delegation to the forum.
As a guest of the forum, Qatar discussed its successful experience in organizing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament, including the role of the private sector and investment opportunities in developing the cities, infrastructure and the quality of the life of population, as well as the distinguished participation of the Ministry of Municipality, along with various entities which contributed to the success of the events of the historic tournament.
The distinguished pavilion of Qatar in the exhibition accompanying the forum, showcased models of the Qatari successful experiences in hosting World Cup tournament, including the distinguished municipal services and infrastructures that were provided during the tournament events. The pavilion narrates the entire story of success, from the moment Qatar won the bid to host the FIFA World Cup, until laying out Qatar National Vision 2030, where World Cup projects were set among the prioritising goals to be carried out in the service of the hosting file.
In addition, the pavilion featured the models of the eight stadiums that hosted the tournament games, along with the entities that had a major role in the successful organization of the tournament, and investment opportunities that were provided to the private sector during the tournament, such as projects of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The pavilion also highlighted the role of the Ministry of Municipality during the tournament, specially in the area of public service sector and recycling of waste generated from tournament sites, where Qatar made unparalleled achievement in the history of World Cup tournaments, through recycling and treating all waste and converting them into energy.
Meanwhile, Qatar Rail showcased a model for rail, including an augmented reality glass for the experience of using the Metro, while the story of Qatar's successful tournament was concluded by narrating the coronation moment at the closing ceremony of the tournament that coincided with the anniversary of the National Day of Qatar. The pavilion offered the opportunity for the visitors at the forum to capture souvenir photos through the Bisht on the coronation podium. FURAS was intended to review successful global experiences in the field of investment in the municipal and government sectors, and the forum featured panel discussions, along with professional workshops with the engagement of an elite of speakers which addressed the role of municipal investments in the development of cities.
