At Ideal Indian School, the Indian Republic Day celebrations kick started with president Dr Hassan Kunhi M P unfurling the national flag, followed by the national anthem by the choir.
Principal Shaik Shamim Saheb, heads of sections and departments, teaching and non-teaching staff, Scouts and Guides, parents and students joined the celebrations.
In his presidential address, Dr Kunhi emphasised that the Republic Day is an occasion to celebrate the rights and privileges of all citizens and to honour the brave patriots who sacrificed their lives to make India a free nation. Shamim Saheb urged the students to uphold the values of the Constitution of India.
Students in their speeches reiterated their bond with their motherland and called upon the youth to live up to the traditions of their country and work for betterment. Lukmam Hakim (Class X) spoke in English while Sara Tarik Parkar (Class VII) presented her thoughts in Hindi. The school choir entertained the gathering with a patriotic song.
Boy Scouts and Girl Guides were honoured with certificates and medals for their services rendered on various occasions. Assistant head boy Ahmed Mohamed Faisal welcomed the gathering, assistant head girl Mary Stenicka proposed a vote of thanks and Misha Mushtaq anchored the programme.
