At MES Indian School (MESIS), Abu Hamour branch, the programme started with a Holy Qur'an recitation by Minha and a welcome speech by principal Pramila Kannan. School general secretary Hazmal Ismail hoisted the National Flag. Cultural/co-curricular activities director M C Mohamed mentioned the efforts of B R Ambedkar, who headed the committee which drafted the Constitution of India, and motivated the students with his words to be more responsible and contribute to the nation.
The cultural performances began with speeches in English by Andrea Mary (9B), Sarah Brite (7B) and in Hindi by Umaima (6B) and followed by a patriotic dance by Greeshma (9C) and Sreebadra (8B), a performance by students of Grade V, group song by students of Grade IX and a keyboard recital by Blessy Pauline (7B).
The tiny tots of Grade I & II presented 'Jewels of India'– a fancy dress parade of freedom fighters of India, followed by 'Dress for the Nation-Proud to be an Indian' featuring a kaleidoscope of traditional costumes from different states, highlighting the harmony and diversity of the country.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Fadwa (9A). The programme was anchored by Shama Nayeem (9A). The teachers who co-ordinated the event were Nameer and Shahanas. School secretary Hashim N M, transport director Firos K and Islamic Affairs director Faisal Mayan were also present.
