HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, the patron of the 14th edition of Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2023), honoured the winners Friday at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine Area.
The honouring ceremony took place after the final of the competitions of Haddad Al Tahadi (where the falcon has to hunt a homing pigeon within certain standards). Besides honouring the winners and presenting them with the awards, HE Sheikh Joaan honoured Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme represented by Saad Shaheen al-Humaidi for their excellent support to the falconry heritage in Qatar and sponsoring Ras Laffan falcon championship for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Each of the finalists at Haddad Al Tahadi got a prize of QR100,000, including teams and individual falconers. The winners of the first three places in the final of Al Tala'a (release of the falcons to hunt) competitions were honoured as well. The first winner got a Land Cruiser GXR Vehicle, the second a Land Cruiser GX and the third a sum of QR100,000.
The winners at the final of Al Da'aw (falcons speeding) Local championship won several prizes as well. The first winner got a Land Cruiser GX Vehicle, the second a Toyota Pickup, and the third won a prize of QR50,000. The first three winners at the International Championship of Al Da'aw got the same prizes.
As for the winners at Premier Championship of Al Da'aw: the first got a Land Cruiser GXR, the second a Land Cruiser GX and the third a sum of QR100,000. The first three winners at the Saluki dog race got a Land Cruiser vehicle, a pickup, and QR50,000 consecutively. In promising falconer category, the first ten winners got a total prize of QR88,000, with the first getting QR25,000 and the last QR8,000.
Ali bin Khatem al-Mehshadi, chairman of Al Qannas Qatari Society the supreme committee of Marmi 2023, thanked HE Sheikh Joaan for his support and sponsorship of the festival. He stressed that this edition of the festival has further established its success and enjoyed wider participation from Qatar and the GCC countries and the Arab world. Marmi 2023 will conclude Saturday at Katara - Cultural Village with a falcon beauty contest.
