The United States' Special Advisor on International Disability Rights Sara Minkara hailed the initiatives of Qatar and its experience in empowering persons with disabilities, which were largely demonstrated during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament. In a recorded remark during the inaugural session of the 42nd meeting of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs that was held in Doha, Minkara said that, during her visit to Qatar prior to the launch of the World Cup tournament, she was introduced to the enormous efforts undertaken by relevant entities to empower persons with disabilities.
Such tournament was most accessible to persons with disabilities in the history of World Cup, she confirmed, pointing out that the US is committed to supporting the social development in the world through joint co-operation with various countries. The US focuses on promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in the world, integrating them and facilitating their access to education, employment and various services, Minkara said. For her part, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J Mohammed called on the international community to exert greater effort to integrate persons with disabilities into community, pointing out that integration of persons with disabilities is one of the most critical programs the United Nations is currently working on, within the framework of following-up the 2030 Sustainable Development agenda.
In a similar recorded remark, the UN official said international and regional co-operation in the area of protecting is critical to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities, in addition to capitalizing on various approaches and experiences at the global level.
