An earthquake measuring 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Bone Bolango Regency of Gorontalo province, northeastern Indonesia on Wednesday.
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics reported Wednesday that the epicentre of the earthquake occurred 69 km southeast of Bone Bolango, at a depth of 138 km.
The earthquake did not cause a tsunami.
On Jan 15, 2021, an earthquake measuring 6.2 magnitude, followed by several aftershocks, hit Majene and Mamuju regencies in West Sulawesi, killing more than 100 people and injuring hundreds of others.
Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the "Ring of Fire", where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
