Cinema Under the Stars at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park is back with yet another "exciting slate of films", the Doha Film Institute (DFI) has announced.
"Join us for an exciting blend of family-friendly animated films and live-action comedies," DFI tweeted, adding that screenings will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis.
DFI listed the names of three films to be screened this weekend as part of the initiative - 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' (2016), 'Frozen' (2013) and 'Boy and the World' (2014).
'Hunt for the Wilderpeople', directed by Taika Waititi, will be screened at 7pm on Thursday, January 19. The film's synopsis reads: "Ricky is a Very Bad Egg, or so claims frighteningly enthusiastic child-services officer Paula when she drops him off with Bella and Hec – the latest in a series of foster parents for the sullen young urban 'gangsta'. This setup is the boy’s last chance to get on the straight and narrow before he is plucked out of the foster-care system and plonked into juvenile detention. Thanks to Bella’s penchant for killing with kindness, it looks like the delinquent-in-training just might get his act together at last.
Director Taika Waititi, of the ‘Thor’ franchise fame, carefully intertwines off-the-hook wit, brilliant performances and a heartwarming story to provide a new take on the wilderness adventure story.
'Frozen', by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, will be shown at 7pm on Friday, January 20.
The synopsis says: "When their kingdom becomes trapped in perpetual winter, fearless Anna joins forces with mountaineer Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick to find Anna’s sister, Snow Queen Elsa, and break her icy spell. Although their epic journey leads them to encounters with mystical trolls, a comedic snowman, harsh conditions, and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff bravely push onward in a race to save their kingdom from winter’s cold grip."
'Boy and the World', by Ale Abreu, will be screened at 7pm on Saturday, January 21. "An amazing Brazilian animation that truly exemplifies the power of imagery and music as a combination that has more than enough to portray a powerful and profound message. It shows an adventurous quest that illustrates the issues of the modern world through the eyes of a child. A cautionary tale of globalisation, 'The Boy And The World' teaches above all the dangers of the massification of the economy, of the mind, and of the soul," the synopsis reads.
‘Cinema Under the Stars’ is described as a "programme of family-friendly screenings in the great outdoors".
