The organising committee of the ongoing 14th edition of Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2023) announced the winners at the final of Al Da'aw (falcons speeding) local championship held Monday.
Fifteen falcons won the first five places in three different categories achieving the highest speed from the time they are released by the falconers, reach their target, and return.
The time range achieved by all the winners at the different types and categories ranges from 16 seconds and fractions of a second to 18 seconds and fractions of a second.
Fahd al-Essari, head of Al Da'aw Committee at Marmi 2023, said that that the participants gave an excellent performance with their falcons.
He said that the results were very close to each other, with only part of a thousandth of a second.
Al-Essari said that the qualifying falcons for the premier round are set to compete on Saturday.
Abdulla Saeed al-Mari, owner of the falcon that won the first place, said this is his falcon’s first participation at Marmi.
It previously won the third place in a championship of Al Qannas Qatari Society.
Today the competitions of Haddad Al Tahadi (where the falcon has to hunt a homing pigeon within certain parameters) will be held during the morning and afternoon sessions.
Marmi 2023, organised by Al Qannas Qatari Society at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine Area, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, will continue until January 28.
The event has drawn local, regional and international attention as one of the major festivals in its category, pioneered by Qatar to maintain and develop such heritage traditional sport.
