• New departments to be added to AAH in phases
The healthcare team in the operating rooms of the Day Care Unit (DCU) at Aisha Bint Hamad Al-Attiyah Hospital (AAH) performed its 100th surgical procedure, a maxillofacial surgery, on January 4.
Located just south of Al Khor, AAH is Hamad Medical Corporation’s newest hospital, and is undergoing a phased opening.
Commenting on the 100th surgical procedure, AAH medical director Dr Ibrahim Mohd Fawzy Hassan said: “I congratulate the entire healthcare team at the Day Care Unit for this tremendous achievement. In just a short space of time since the hospital’s formal opening on November 7, 2022, we have reached this significant surgical milestone. Our healthcare teams are making a positive contribution to improving access to high-quality medical services for Qatar’s population.”
The Day Care Unit operating room runs five days a week from 7am to 3pm. Within a span of just two months, the team successfully conducted more than 100 surgeries and continues to expand the number and range of procedures performed. Surgical cases at AAH to date have included acute care surgery, urology and maxillofacial patients.
AAH is HMC’s second largest hospital and has been established according to the world’s highest standards in medical technology in terms of equipment and furnishings. Once fully operational, the hospital will provide 300 single-occupancy inpatient beds, 232 of which are for general and acute patients. The remaining 68 beds are reserved for critical care patients.
According to a statement issued by HMC on the occasion of the opening of the hospital in November last year, the hospital's operations will be phased in over the coming months, and it is considered one of the most advanced hospitals that uses the latest technologies and equipment.
The main building consists of the emergency department that is divided into three parts: male, female and paediatric with a capacity of 60 beds. The building also includes a comprehensive clinical imaging department in addition to waiting areas and cafeterias.
The clinical facilities provided at AAH consists of 13 comprehensive operation theatres, four operating theatres for daycare procedures, 96 treatment rooms for males, 48 treatment rooms for females, 48 obstetric rooms, 15 VIP inpatient rooms, 15 beds for on-call units, 40 paediatric rooms, 40 ICU beds for adults, and 28 beds for neonatal ICU. The hospital also includes 64 outpatient clinics located on two floors: ground and first, a pharmacy, a 11-bed hemodialysis unit, a rehabilitation unit, and a clinical imaging department.
