The Joint Committee for Rain Emergencies has made intensive efforts during the recent rainy spell and responded to citizens' requests to remove rainwater, working nonstop for 60 hours from Thursday morning until Saturday evening .
The committee consists of personnel from specialised agencies in municipalities across the country, the General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), and security authorities at the Ministry of Interior.
A total of 1,470 workers and employees have participated in the rain emergency work teams' operations so far, using 988 pieces of equipment and water pumps to carry out their work.
Further, the unified call centre at the Ministry of Municipality as well as Ashghal received 2,931 requests to remove accumulated rainwater, with 2,099 of these addressed immediately.
Work is ongoing to implement the remaining requests as soon as possible in co-ordination with the agencies and entities concerned.
The mechanism for receiving communications is carried out in co-ordination with the main operations room of the unified call centre through the number 184, in addition to the number 188 of the Public Works Authority.
Meanwhile, work teams from the General Cleanliness Department have intensified cleaning, sweeping and washing operations at tunnels and on various roads after the rainfall.
Accordingly, dust and stones have been removed from roads, and trees that had fallen due to the strong winds accompanying the rain have been removed.
Teams from the General Cleanliness Department have removed fallen trees (and their parts), weighing around 64 tonnes, in six shifts from Thursday until Saturday evening.
The number of workers, drivers and supervisors who have taken part in the clean-up processes amounted to 2,780.
