The competitions of the ongoing 14th Qatar International Falconry and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2023) at Sealine Area will see 30 finalists for Al-Da’aw Championship in three categories, while the number of participants in Al-Tala'a Championship increased to 13.
Today afternoon, the promising falconer championship and the young falconer championship will take place at the event, being held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani until January 28. The Greyhound Championship is also happening in parallel. During the morning, Al-Talaa Championship qualifiers will continue for groups from 30 to 34.
Yesterday morning, Al-Tala'a Championship for groups from 24 to 29 were held, amid intense competition. With the qualification of three falconers, the number of those qualified for the next rounds increased to 13. The competitions were interesting and exciting, and saw the exclusion of one participant in the penultimate group. Nasser Jassim al-Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of Al-Tala’a Committee, called on the participants to abide by the rules of the tournament, and announced that Group 28 competitions will be repeated later, except for the participant who was excluded.
During the afternoon yesterday, falconers entered the field of competition in the Al-Da'aw tournament for three categories: Qarnas Shaheen, Qarnas Free and Free Chick. Ten falcons from each category qualified for the local Al-Da’aw final, which will take place on January 16.
Fahd al-Asiri, head of Al-Da’aw committee at the Marmi Festival, said Al-Da’aw tournament usually witnesses strong competitions between elite falcons. He explained that Al-Da’aw championship competition depends on speed, as the ten falcons that achieve the best timing are the ones that qualify for the final race. The competing falcons speed during the 400m race is determined by sensors at the starting and finishing points, he added.
