Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) celebrated the World Braille Day, which falls on Jan. 4 every year.
In this context, the center will organise two lectures on Thursday and Sunday respectively presented by visual impairments experts, in a bid to learn more about Braille and its importance and review the devices that use this method to make it easier for the blind to interact with the community.
The center also offers an awareness contest about the Braille language, to learn more about it.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the QSCCB, Faisal Al Kooheji confirmed that the Braille method was not affected by modern technologies, and that audio books and speaking programs will not replace it.
There are still more than 150 million blind people around the world who use this method, he added, pointing to the existence of modern technologies and applications that can convert written texts into tangible texts in Braille.
The center seeks to enhance culture among its members by following up on the latest technical developments that benefit them, as well as offering courses in Braille writing and reading.
