Al Wakra Municipality's Health Control Section carried out 1,179 inspection tours on various food outlets and facilities across the municipality during December that resulted in the shutting of two restaurants for violating Law No 8 for 1990 on the regulation of human food control.
Besides, 26 violation reports were issued and the section received 14 related complaints and treated them immediately. Further, 16 food samples were taken from the local market and sent for examination at the central laboratory to ensure their safety for human consumption.
The veterinarian team at the section supervised the slaughtering of 191,101 heads of livestock (buffalo, camel and sheep) at the automated slaughterhouse at Al Wakra. Accordingly, the team ordered and supervised the destruction of 369 full carcasses in addition to 6,865kg of meat, for being unsafe for human consumption.
Around 60 tonnes of fish were examined at Al Wakra Fish Market, and 35kg destroyed for being unsafe for human consumption. Further, 1,860kg of desert truffles were examined for food safety at Al Wakra Central Market.
