Katara Public Diplomacy Centre organised a lecture entitled 'Soft Power' at Hall 15 in Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation.
The lecture was delivered by Director of Policy Analysis at the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies, and Head of the Executive Programme in Diplomatic Studies and International Co-operation in the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) Dr Marwan Kabalan.
The lecture reviewed the term 'soft power' as one of the modern terms in diplomacy which was used by the American researcher Joseph Nye in the 19th century, in his book 'Leap towards Leadership'.
The lecturer touched on dealt with the uses of the State's soft power and its objectives, saying that at the internal level it can help the State to facilitate the flow of direct foreign investment to it, attract more tourists and businessmen, and upgrade the tourism and business sectors.
The lecture comes within the activities of the Katara Public Diplomacy Centre during January.
Dr Kabalan affirmed that Qatar, during the last few years, achieved a series of successes in public diplomacy, most notably is that it impressively succeeded in organising the FIFA World Cup, and it became a regional and international media, cultural and civilised centre, as well as its success in mediation and settlement of international disputes, which contributed to the strengthening of international peace and security.
