Doha Institute for Graduate Studies will hold the IIAS-SEAPP Doha Conference 2023 next month. Co-organised by the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy (SEAPP) at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, the conference will be a unique opportunity for exchanging experiences, sharing knowledge, and fostering government action to address complex policy dilemmas and constraints.
In the last 15 years, governments faced big challenges, such as the 2008 financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic. They also made major strategic commitments to delivering the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, there is still a long path towards a version of development that delivers sustainable economic growth that is good for citizens and good for the planet.
With the theme “Developmental States and Professionalisation of Public Administration and Public Policy”, the conference organisers ask whether developmental states can contribute to holistic development in the 21st century the same way they did to economic development in the 20th century. Additionally, with the alternative model being the neo-liberal state, the conference indirectly questions the Western dominance in development policies and public administration.
