The US Supreme Court blocked the Biden administration's plan to end a measure taken during the Covid-19 pandemic to prevent hundreds of thousands of immigrants from entering the country.
The Supreme Court sided with officials in 19 states who said that they would witness a huge influx of immigrants if the measure called 'Title 42' was lifted.
In March 2020, the administration of former US President Donald Trump implemented this health measure to immediately expel illegal immigrants who were arrested at land borders, with the exception of unaccompanied minors, and some nationalities such as Ukrainians.
It is worth noting that Trump's policies to limit immigration were strongly criticised by the International Organization for Migration. However, these policies received the approval of some Americans who believed that immigrations was one of the causes of widespread unemployment in their society.
President Joe Biden's administration said it was ready to end the measure and put in place precautions to prevent confusion at the border and any potential increase in immigrant numbers.
