Former Kuwaiti national team goalkeeper Abdul Reda Abbas confirmed that the 25th Gulf Football Cup (Khaliji 25), which will be held in the Iraqi city of Basra from January 6 to 18, will witness the attendance of a large crowd, pointing out that he will head from Kuwait to Basra on foot.
In statements on Monday, he added that the Iraqi people are eager to host the peoples of the Gulf and people of the Gulf are happy to be in Iraq and in Basra to convey greetings and longings to the Iraqi people and support this good country, stressing that Iraq's hosting of this championship has warmed the hearts of the Gulf public and the Kuwaiti public in particular.
Abbas highlighted that the Khaliji 25 edition will be distinguished by the presence of everyone and the concerted efforts that managed to prepare for this major event in record time.
He pointed out that he will head to the city of Basra on foot in support of the 25th edition of the tournament, underlining that he made a promise to himself since 2012 that if the Gulf Cup is held in Basra, he will come to it on foot.
The former Kuwaiti national team goalkeeper explained in this context that he will set off on the 3rd of next January from his home in the Jabriya area of Kuwait heading to the Safwan border crossing and enter Iraq on foot.
He underscored that he seeks to convey a sports message to the world, embodying the love of Iraq and the Iraqi people who love sports and breathe football and recalling the history of this country, its civilization and its ability to reunite through the establishment of major international tournaments and forums.
