Officials of the chambers of Qatar and Serbia recently held a meeting in Doha to review co-operation ties in various fields.
Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari met with Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia president Marko Cadez and discussed ways to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Al-Kuwari praised the good relations between Qatar and Serbia and the sincere desire of both countries to develop these relations in various fields. He noted that there are many cooperation agreements signed between Qatar and Serbia in various fields, which provides a suitable environment to enhance cooperation in economic fields.
Also, al-Kuwari pointed to the importance of forming the Qatari-Serbian Joint Business Council. Three years ago, al-Kuwari said, a memorandum of understanding was signed to establish the council.
He said the joint business council will work to strengthen co-operation relations between the Qatari and Serbian private sectors, including the exchange of business delegations for knowledge exchange and the establishment of joint ventures.
Al-Kuwari said trade exchange between Qatar and Serbia increased by 50% to reach QR51mn in 2021. “Despite growth in trade over the past year, it is still modest,” said al-Kuwari, who called on businessmen from both countries to explore business opportunities and establish trade alliances that would benefit the promotion of trade exchange.
Cadez stressed the importance of supporting trade relations between the Qatari and Serbian private sectors and focusing on creating a suitable climate for partnerships between companies in both countries.
He called on owners of Qatari businesses to visit Serbia and learn about the investment climate and the available investment opportunities, especially in the field of Information Technology (IT) and the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, Cadez reviewed the most important economic sectors where Qataris can invest and the facilities and incentives offered by Serbian authorities to foreign investors.
He underscored the role of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to establish Qatari-Serbian trade partnerships and expressed his hope that the coming period will witness momentum in mutual visits between business delegations from both countries.
