The Qatari-Moroccan Joint Business Council discussed ways to enhance co-operation relations between Qatar and Morocco’s respective private sectors during a virtual meeting held on Wednesday.
The meeting was held in the presence of Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises deputy general of the president Mahdi al-Tazi.
It was also attended by Ismail al-Ansari, vice-president of the Qatari side of the joint business council, and Mohamed Baida, president of the Moroccan side. Qatar Chamber board member Abdul Rahman al-Ansari, a number of Qatari businessmen, and members of the joint business council participated in the meeting.
In his opening speech, al-Kuwari stressed the need to activate the role of the joint business council and to strengthen co-operation between the private sectors of both countries to increase economic and commercial co-operation that is commensurate with their available capabilities, coupled with the strong fraternal relations between Qatar and Morocco.
“Qatari-Moroccan relations are witnessing increasing growth, especially in light of the tendency of the leaderships of the two countries to continue to strengthen them and to ensure their continuous development as evidenced by the co-operation agreements signed between the two sides and the levels of growth in intra-trade and joint investments,” al-Kuwari pointed out.
He said the role of the private sector in both countries is complementary to the government’s role in promoting joint co-operation and building bridges of co-operation between Qatari and Moroccan companies. This, al-Kuwari further said, will lead to forging partnerships and trade alliances, whether in Morocco or in Qatar, to contribute to the revitalisation of bilateral trade.
“Despite the remarkable growth of trade exchange between Qatar and Morocco, which increased by 84% in 2021 to reach QR754mn over QR411mn in 2020, we still aspire to further growth compared to the capabilities available in both countries,” al-Kuwari added.
