Qatar Charity (QC) CEO Youssef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari received a group of fans as part of the ‘Qatar FIFA 2022 for All: Celebrating Football with Refugees and Displaced People’ initiative.
The fans were outstanding students from several countries going through humanitarian challenges.
The students hosted by QC were from Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, in addition to those from the Rohingya refugees.
Al-Kuwari expressed his happiness with the visit of the students who attended the FIFA World Cup match. The QC CEO also congratulated them on their academic excellence despite the current challenging circumstances in their countries.
He advised the students to continue to learn, develop their capacities, and expand their aspirations and dreams to build a better future for themselves, their communities, and their countries.
The students expressed their happiness with this opportunity, which enabled them to attend some of the World Cup activities, thanking the sponsors of the initiative.
“Despite the bad conditions our country is suffering from, we have a great passion and ambition for learning,” said Wahib Ramzi Abdullah, a Yemeni student, expressing his delight in attending a World Cup match.
"We congratulate you on the successful organising of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar,” said Salim, a Rohingya refugee student. “Thank you for this wonderful initiative that allowed the Rohingya refugees to participate in this event,” he added, noting that “You made them feel that they are part of this world despite the challenging conditions.”
Student Muhammad Yusuf Hassan from Iraq said this opportunity made his dream come true, as he never expected to attend the World Cup match.
Qatar set up the fan zones for refugees and internally displaced persons in several countries, including Palestine, Jordan, Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Turkey and Bangladesh. This came as part of the ‘Qatar FIFA 2022 for All: Celebrating Football with Refugees and Displaced People’ initiative.
