TotalEnergies Qatar hosted more than 90 youth members from Sport’ A Vie, a non-profit association in France for the integration and social development of young people from diverse neighbourhoods to discover cultures through large international sport events.
Their visit to Qatar comes under the umbrella of Tamkeen, a programme by TotalEnergies Qatar that houses all of the company’s initiatives on knowledge-sharing and human development in the country.
Within their programme, Sport’ A Vie members were hosted at TotalEnergies Research Centre Qatar (TRC-Q) located at Qatar Science & Technology Park, where they discovered the company’s state-of- the-art facilities and met with the research team to learn more about their innovation and sustainable development programmes.
TotalEnergies Qatar also invited Texas A&M University at Qatar to display their roadshow, which demonstrates how science and engineering principles can be seen in real life. Benjamin Cieslinski, STEM Laboratory manager at Texas A&M University at Qatar, and Tala Katbeh, programme co-ordinator explained STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts to the students to show that science and engineering can be fun, exciting and creative.
The young travellers also had a tour of the National Museum of Qatar and Qatar National Library, among other culturally significant sites. They visited the Al Thakira coastline where they contributed to TotalEnergies Qatar’s mangrove preservation campaign by planting 600 baby mangroves and learning about the effects of climate change, and what each person can do to reduce the carbon footprint. They finally experienced FIFA World cup matches.
The students engaged in a gathering with TotalEnergies EP Qatar managing director and country chair, Matthieu Bouyer, who presented to them a brief history of Qatar’s energy journey, and the company’s activities in Qatar. This was followed by enthusiastic discussions and questions from the audience about the energy transformation on which the world is embarked in.
Following the visit, Bouyer said: “We launched Tamkeen to support local and international young talents, and it arches on our efforts to promote human development for all ages and backgrounds. We are delighted to support Sport’ A Vie students discover Qatar’s rich culture and grow awareness of the Gulf region through education, art, sport and biodiversity. Their journey here has without doubt opened their mind and understanding on Qatar.
"I would like to thank Qatar Museums, Texas A&M University at Qatar, and Qatar Science and Technology Park for collaborating with us on this visit.”
Sport’ A Vie was also supported by other French companies and institutions during their trip in Qatar.
