A number of Qatari citizens living near Al Thumama Stadium are offering tables full of food and drinks to greet the fans as they exit late night after matches.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the Qataris hired workers specifically to distribute food and drinks to the fans to show them the traditional hospitality.
Ahmed Salem al-Sulaiti explained that since the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Qataris living near Al Thumama Stadium have been offering food and drinks to fans and other guests and they will continue this until the end of the tournament.
Light cakes, pancakes, sweets, dates, water, tea with milk, Arabic coffee and some desserts are being offered, he said.
"Through this gesture, Qataris show the guests and visitors the true nature of the people of the country and highlight the spirit of openness towards others. We want them to know that we are open for all and extend our hands for all, and they are welcomed in the country to enjoy our hospitality," al-Sulaiti said stressing that he feels greatly happy when fans pass by his house and accept his offer of hospitality.
The citizen said that even though the matches end late at night at the stadium, he does not mind waiting for the fans. "More and more fans show their liking for Arabic coffee, and highly appreciate the gesture," he added.
