The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced Friday a ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages to fans in the vicinity of the eight venues of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which begins Sunday.
It said in a statement: "The host country and FIFA will continue to work to ensure that the stadiums and adjacent areas are spaces that provide pleasure and marked by the respect to all audiences and provide a pleasant experience for all."
The World Cup competitions will begin Sunday at Al Bayt Stadium, with the opening match between the Qatari national team and its Ecuadorian counterpart.
