The new Volkswagen Passat
The new Volkswagen Passat was revealed yesterday at its national debut.
Since 2011, Volkswagen has been offering the Passat model in two technically different configurations. The version that is produced in Germany was specially designed for driving conditions in Europe, while another Passat was created for markets like America. It was also developed in Germany, but is now being produced in the USA. It is somewhat larger than the European version, and so it is also ideal for a market like Qatar.
The base version is driven by a powerful and smooth-running 167 hp five-cylinder petrol engine, and a six-cylinder petrol engine is available as an option with a 276 hp V6 that is paired with a standard dual clutch gearbox. Also on display at the Qatar Motor Show is the Beetle R, not yet in production, and the Race Touareg 3, available on demand for 1.5mn euros. Volkswagen’s sales saw a 21% growth in the Middle East last year with around 11,000 vehicles, and 35% growth in the GCC.
