A live interview in progress on QF Radio
Today QF Radio commemorates its first anniversary, celebrating past broadcasts from its studio at the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
The radio station has accomplished many feats on behalf of QF with the number of listeners from more than 80 countries growing steadily into the thousands, as well as thousands of followers joining its Facebook and Twitter sites.
The station has launched itself as a channel for social interaction and live discussion.
QF Media Centre manager Saad Saleh al-Hudaifi commented on the anniversary: “January 23, 2012 is not a normal day for the media in Qatar, and at QF in particular.
“On this day last year, QF Radio was launched to promote the hopes and ambitions of Qatar’s youth, and has now set a unique path for its future by not only believing in itself, but relying on the support of QF administration and management during potentially difficult times.
“This strategy has paid off and the growing number of listeners is a testament to that success.”
QF Radio has made contributions to successful media coverage of events in Qatar, including the Asian Cup 2011, where daily broadcasts were made both in Arabic and English.
The radio channel also sponsored the Qatar Career Fair (QCF) from their studio and even created a special initiative for Qatari youth by uploading resumes to the QF Radio website for future job prospects.
In May, QF radio also covered Education City’s senior convocation from an external studio and conducted interviews with recent graduates to reflect on their past experiences within QF.
The radio has a website,
www.qfradio.org.qa, as well as an app for iPhone, helping QF Radio gain publicity.
Additionally, QF Radio provided training to students from Qatar University (QU) and Education City Universities last summer, where they produced three different radio shows and helped prepare hundreds of topics for radio discussion.
“The number of current listeners stands as an example of the success that the radio has witnessed since its launch,” said al-Hudaifi.
QF Radio’s first broadcast was from an open studio in the Villaggio Mall.
