Dr Amani instructs the students
Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) has conducted a specialised course for engineering industry professionals titled ‘Petroleum exploration and production’.
The course content exposed attendees to the full lifecycle of the oil and gas industry. This included an overview of technologies, workflows and processes that enable the oil and gas industry to explore, appraise, develop and produce hydrocarbons. It also covered various social, environmental and financial impacts of this production.
Attendees received an introduction to the oil field on the first day and then studied reservoir appraisal and engineering on the second day, reservoir development and drilling on the third day and completion and production operations on the fourth day.
Dr Mahmood Amani, associate professor of petroleum engineering and course instructor, indicated that the course benefited its attendees by offering a comprehensive understanding of oil and gas operations rather than only one piece of the process.
He further commented on the high demand for the course saying: “Oil and gas companies in Qatar place a very high value on training for their employees. They believe that training will enhance the knowledge and capabilities of their employees; it is an investment in their people. Training courses also highlight the safety of personnel and safe operations in the field. Thus, they both educate employees and result in safer operations.”
The course was offered by the Network of Excellence in Training (NExT), a Schlumberger company, in collaboration with Texas A&M University. NExT provides customised training programmes for oil and gas professionals in over 50 countries worldwide.
