Abdullah al-Sobaei ... expediting implementation of the projects on hand so as to strengthen our financial position

Barwa Real Estate firm will be laying the foundation stone this week for the construction of 43,000 units to accommodate single workers (labourers’ quarters).
This was revealed by Barwa’s chief executive officer, Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Turki al-Sobaei, in an extensive interview to the local Arabic daily Arrayah yesterday.
This massive project will be a self-contained township far removed from family residential areas. It will have all the standard health and recreational facilities besides other amenities.
Answering a question on the company’s strategy and plan of action under the new board of directors which assumed office a year ago, he said that the focus is on augmenting the capital, reducing lending and lowering the costs on financing of projects.
“We have also expedited implementation of the projects on hand so as to strengthen our financial position. The Sadd Towers, the Commercial Street in Salwa and the Barwa Township are the three main projects that we have almost completed. In the last mentioned project we have handed over 4,500 apartments from a total of 6,000,” he said.
In answer to a question on whether Qatar Airways has offered to buy half the number of apartments in the Barwa Township he said: “We are in talks with them. Nothing has been finalised so far.”
