Japanese Foreign Minister, Koichiro Gemba yesterday visited Qatar, where he praised bilateral relations between the two nations during a meeting with HE the Chairman of Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah.
The meeting was part of an eight-day tour of the region, which has seen the Minister discussing energy imports from some of its most important trade partners in the sector with a keen eye on the situation in Iran.
With Japan depending on oil imports more than ever due to the closure of many of its nuclear reactors, the potential ban of Iranian oil imports means that the Japanese government has been attempting to secure a strong supply from countries in the Gulf region.
Minister Gemba yesterday said Qatar will provide his country with the necessary oil supplies as the situation in Iran continues to develop.
Al-Attiyah, who is also chairman of the Japan-Qatar Friendship Association, pledged that Qatar will offer any assistance possible to the people of Japan as they continue their recovery from the earthquake which struck the nation in March last year.
