Guy Chaham: “This is one of the largest sport and recreation developments
Doha’s Aspire Zone sports complex, which has raised the international bar for training facilities, is to get a variety of innovative outdoor exercise machines.
The Canadian company GreenGym has received official notification of the purchase worth over QR750,000 — along with a deposit — from authorities in Qatar.
“The contract calls for 83 units to be delivered by the end of January,” GreenGym co-founder and CEO Guy Chaham told Canadian publication The Chronicle Herald.
The contract, worth Canadian Dollar 210,000, is an important foot in the door to the potentially lucrative Middle Eastern market for GreenGym and the largest single order for the company, he explained.
“This is one of the largest sport and recreation developments currently underway in the world and will provide terrific exposure for our company,” Chaham claimed.
Though the Dartmouth company normally produces the entire order within a month, due to the holidays it plans to add a second shift to fulfil the contract.
GreenGym CEO maintained it is a feather in the cap to obtain a contract to supply fitness equipment in the Middle East, where the preference has usually been to obtain these sorts of products from China, which is closer and has existing trade links.
“They were looking for exceptionally rugged equipment and GreenGym meets the specifications,” he said while explaining that the company’s outdoor gym is very similar to an indoor gym – from cross trainers to strength training.
There is a wide range of equipment to suit all needs. The equipment installed outdoors so it is robust, weatherproof and colourful.
“It does not use weights for resistance, but rather one’s own body weight. The equipment is inviting, and looks more like friendly playgrounds than intimidating fitness equipment,” Chaham said.
GreenGym is also entering the US market after New York City officials confirmed the company’s products are included in the design specifications list for a significant development in a Manhattan park.
“This is a large East River development and it will be exciting to see our equipment included in this high-profile location,” said Chaham.
Canada has higher safety standards than any other country in the world. GreenGym’s is the only equipment on the market that has been specifically designed to meet these high Canadian standards.
“Careful attention was given to reduce potential safety risks for all users and especially young children,” the CEO said while adding that GreenGym is setting the standard for outdoor fitness equipment in Canada and around the world.
