Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) developed and implemented several new training programmes and initiatives last year designed to complement the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The initiatives included customised training programmes for female Qatari employees, developing the coaching skills of the company’s training specialists, launching a learning forum for Qatari national developees - a leadership workshop in schools and introducing a state-of-the-art e-learning programme.
The learning forum workshop was designed around specific learning theme and the first forum asked the question: Are leaders born or made?.
Also, Qapco’s learning and development department recently launched the “Next Generation” programme and leadership workshop at the Abdulrahman bin Jasim School in Al-Wakrah.
The programme is part of a series of promotional presentations delivered to selected independent schools with the main objective of promoting engineering, Qapco and the oil and gas industry to Qatari schoolchildren.
The leadership workshops have been designed to develop leadership skills within young people that will enhance their lives in the future, to create an awareness in young people that they have the ability to achieve and to be responsible for their own lives and to empower them to develop positive attitudes enabling them to become more self-confident, independent and creative.
The department also launched an e-learning programme - another initiative aimed at enhancing the development of all Qatari national employees - in collaboration with ictQatar.
The programme offers a flexible and innovative way of learning with participants being able to learn anywhere and at anytime.
Nasser al-Hajri, human resource and learning programme manager at Qapco, said: “It is important that Qapco helps to promote leadership within schools as it will encourage ethical values among the students helping them to become ambassadors for youth development. It also supports our corporate social responsibility and proactively promotes the public image of Qapco by encouraging community growth and
development.”
Also, as part of Qapco’s strategy to promote a culture of knowledge sharing and diversity a ‘Developing Women in the Workplace’ programme was also recently organised for all female Qatari employees.
The main aim of the three-day workshop was to support the personal and professional development of the company’s female employees focusing on pro-woman issues and topics.
Al-Hajri said of the workshop: “We aim to reflect the diverse nature of society and to foster an environment which values people’s contribution irrespective of their age, gender, disability, race, religion, marital status or ethnic origin. We are proud of our female employees and are extremely proactive in their recruitment and development. Initiatives such as our ‘Developing Women in the Workplace’ workshop and our sponsorship of conferences dedicated to women emphasise our commitment to expand and enhance this area of the workforce.”
