Naseer Akhtar Basheer Ahmed
Long-time Doha resident Naseer Akhtar Basheer Ahmed (72), a former inspector of schools in Qatar’s Ministry of Education, died in Doha on Wednesday.
A native of Lahore, Pakistan, he was a popular figure in the education circles in Doha, especially among the expatriate schools for nearly three decades until the 1990s.
Ahmed (pictured) came to Qatar at a very young age and worked in the Qatar National Library (Darul Kutub). He was among the first batch of students to graduate from the Higher Secondary School (Religious Stream)  following which he was appointed as a teacher of Shariah in primary schools. He later became the inspector of schools in which capacity he worked till his retirement. Ahmed is survived by four sons and three daughters. His wife passed away a few years ago.
Friends remember Ahmed as a man of very few words who was known for his sincerity and devotion. Among those present at the burial ceremony in Abu Hamour on Thursday were some of his close Qatari associates including Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage adviser Moosa Zainal, Ministry of Education’s former undersecretary Mohamed Abdullah al-Ansari, former assistant undersecretary Yusuf Abdur Rahman al-Mulla and several others, besides a large number of Asian expatriates.
