The renovation works on Mesaimeer Road in Doha, which links the busy Abu Hamour area to Salwa Road, seem never-ending.
“A newly laid stretch of Mesaimeer Road, which has been under repairs for over three years now, is being resurfaced yet again,” a resident of the area said yesterday.
Asphalt has been dug up from the stretch, which lies between Abu Hamour Petrol Station and the roundabout on Haloul Street, on the way to Salwa Road.
As a result, one side of the affected stretch of Mesaimeer Road is blocked for traffic yet again.
“I remember road widening works beginning over three years ago and surprisingly they are still not over,” said another resident who drives through Mesaimeer Road daily.
The road used to be just one lane on each side before the works began and residents of the area have been waiting to enjoy the full benefits of the project to widen the road to three lanes on each side.
“Given that this stretch of Mesaimeer Road caters to thousands who transport their children to MES Indian School, Al Jazeera Academy, Pakistan Education Centre and Doha Modern Indian School, the authorities should have completed the works on a priority basis,” a parent said.
Another resident pointed out that the portion of the road which has seen asphalt dug up over the last few days was completed only a few months ago.
A residential compound with hundreds of villas and an under construction commercial complex are among those directly affected by the latest repair works.
“With the schools scheduled to reopen next week after winter vacation, traffic on the road is going to be a headache if the repairs are not finished on a war footing,” the resident added.
