The national environmental programme ‘A Flower Each Spring’ organised its second trip to Ras Matbakh in Al-Khor as part of its 14th edition, which selected Shiran (purple orchid) flower as the theme of this year’s activities.
The programme runs under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) in co-ordination with the Friends of the Environment Centre.
About 400 students from the Abdurrahman bin Jassim Preparatory Independent School, the Zakrit Primary Independent School, Tariq bin Ziyad Secondary Independent School, Al-Bustan Private Kindergarten and the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) took part in the trip.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saif Ali al-Hajari head of the programme and chairman of the Friends of the Environment Centre, praised the great benefits achieved by the programme for the community in terms of the definition of plants and flowers and the country’s environment in general including its birds, insects and its different elements and components.
He explained that flowers of the programme have been adopted as logos of many institutions and companies in Qatar and most recently the Learning Centre at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
