Al-Mutawa with a CommsMEA award
Qtel and the Qtel Group have received four major awards at the CommsMEA Awards ceremony, held in Dubai.
Attended by more than 250 executives from the Middle East and Africa’s telecoms sector, the CommsMEA Awards recognises those organisations that are pushing the boundaries and helping to transform the communications sector in the Middle East and Africa.
In the category for “Best business service,” Qtel impressed the judges with its broad range of specialist solutions, in particular the range of dedicated services for small and medium enterprises. The company has upgraded its already enormously successful “Office in a Box” service, offering a seamless package with considerable savings for the customer.
The award was collected by Adel al-Mutawa, executive director, Group Communications, Qtel. The company has also received awards for its investor relations, corporate social responsibility, consumer branding and overall services in 2011.
The night also saw significant success for companies across the Qtel Group, with the group receiving four awards in total – the highest for any company in 2011.
Nawras of Oman received the “Operational expansion of the year” award following the successful launch of fixed line services in the Sultanate.
Wataniya picked up the accolade for “Middle east operator of the year”, while Algerian operator Nedjma scooped “African operator of the year” in a category with strong competition.
This year saw more than 80 entries submitted across the 16 categories with winners selected by a panel of international judges.
Qtel has grown from a one-country operator in 2005 to becoming a regional leader in 2011. The company has seen its customer base increase from a half million customers in 2005 to a consolidated customer base of 82.4mn by September 2011.
