Winners and other finalists at the competition with Qatar Toastmasters officials
Manula Pramuk Kodithuvakku, a student at the Sri Lankan Stafford International School, has won the Qatar Open Youth Public Speaking Championship organised by the Qatar Toastmasters.
Birla Public School (BPS) student Megha Mibu came second while Vivek Ghaisas from Al Khor International School clinched the third spot.
Organisers of the event held at the Qatar Charity auditorium on Friday gave the public a chance to see the potential of young people in Qatar.
The competition, held uninterrupted for the 13th year running, saw students aged from 13 to 18 battling it out for top honours.
A Qatar Toastmasters official said that the championship is aimed at promoting public speaking and leadership talents.
This year students from 14 schools in the country took part.
The finalists were selected after going through two stages of competition.
The first stage held at Birla Public School attracted 64 students.
Twenty-eight made it to the semifinal.
Twelve students qualified for the grand final.
The chief guest at the grand final was Toastmasters international director George Thomas.
The guests of honour were Toastmaster division E governor K  Krishnakumar, and senior Qatar Toastmaster officials Sameer Hassan Mousa and K Thayalan.
The contest was chaired by chief championship co-ordinator Juttas Paul.
At the function, last year’s champion Adrina Gynachandran spoke about how she could achieve victory and the efforts that she had put forth for the victory.
This championship was supported by ExxonMobil, Swiss Arabian, SBI Qatar, UAE Exchange, Mannai Corporation, Centerpoint and Velosi.
The winners were presented trophies, certificates and gifts.
