Deepa G. Wadhwa delivering the keynote address at the anniversary celebrations
MES Indian School, Qatar’s largest expatriate educational institution, celebrated its 37th anniversary on Thursday.
Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa delivered the keynote address. At the public meetings, held over two days, besides the Indian ambassador, secretary to the president of Supreme Education Council Hamad al-Marri, and Indian embassy minister (political) Sanjiv Kohli were among the guests.
Mohammed al-Mosallam, vice chief executive officer, Qatar Stars League, was the guest of honour.
The celebrations featured an array of art and cultural items.
While speaking at the first day’s celebrations, Wadhwa lauded the achievements made by the children of the school and congratulated principal A P Sasidharan, who had received 2010 CBSE Teacher Award, earlier this year.
At the function, the school management also honoured Sasidharan. Sasidharan dedicated the award to the institution, his colleagues and students.
This year, pointed out the school authorities at the meeting, was special for the school on many counts. MES students did well in various board examinations and their teachers received honours, they said.
Jaskaran Singh Bhalla (science stream) who secured the 5th position overall at the all India level and second in the Gulf region, received a plaque, gold medal and cash award for his achievement in the AISSC (Class XII) examinations held in March 2011.
School overall top scorers of the CBSE and Kerala Board streams were awarded gold medals. Fourteen students who secured grade A1 in all subjects and 20 students who scored 100% in various subjects received cash awards.
The school also honoured 86 students who secured a record breaking A1 in all subjects with cumulative grade point average 10 in class X CBSE examinations with trophies and certificates. Among the Indian schools in the GCC, MES had secured most number of A1 in all subjects.
Teachers whose students secured 100%, were honoured with cash awards and certificates. The school also appreciated the services of 22 staffers who completed 10 years of service with gold medals.
Also speaking, school president B M Sidhique recalled the evolutionary steps taken by MES through the implementation of e-learning from KGI to Class VIII which will induct Classes IX to XII in the next academic session.
Sanjeev Kohli appreciated the enthusiasm and vibrant performances by MES students. He also released the annual magazine ‘The Clarion 2011’.
The students enthralled the audience with scintillating dance performances, skits and music.
Besides the guests, head of audience marketing of Qatar Star League, Hassan al-Kuwari, former school governing council presidents K P Abdul Hameed and M K Abdul Rahman, director academics T K Aboobecker, director (cultural and co-curricular activities) A P Khaleel and director (HSE) V K Abdul Rahman handed over awards to meritorious
students.
At the meeting, principal A P Sasidharan, B M Siddique, A Shamsudheen also received the World Education Summit Awards 2010 on behalf of the school from vice president of S Chand Harcourt New Delhi,
Sanjeev Sharma.
