The long-awaited redevelopment of Battersea Power Station passed a key milestone this week - with the start of work to rebuild the demolished south-west chimney. The chimney has already reached a height of five metres. The Malaysian owners of the site have pledged to restore the chimney to just short of half its full height. All four chimneys will be rebuilt as they are riddled with decay from sulphur in the smoke they pumped out for decades. The Grade II* listed building is being turned into 254 flats with shops, restaurants and offices at a cost of £750mn.
