A huge tree collapsed on to a house in south London yesterday.
Firefighters were called to Beckwith Road in Herne Hill shortly after a 1.30pm. Later they joked about exerting “tree-mendous effort” to make the situation safe.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the incident left the end-of-terrace property  with a smashed window, adding no one was in at the moment of impact.
There were no reported injuries and the cause is under investigation - though wind is not thought to have been a factor.
In pictures  posted by firefighters, the tree appears to have been nearly completely up-rooted and has torn up a large amount of the pavement.
The LFB spokesman said a first floor  window was damaged, with firefighters implementing a cordon while they made the scene safe.
Residents were evacuated from a street in Soho this morning after a lorry hit a building which is being renovated by construction workers.
The lorry crashed into the scaffolding on Brewer Street at about 7.30am yesterday.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene after the crash left the scaffolding in a “precarious position”, the London Fire Brigade said.
Police cordoned off the road while the structure was repaired.
Some businesses, including nearby hairdressers Splash Soho, were forced to close while the incident was being investigated.
Chris Hawskwell, an emergency planning officer for the London Ambulance Service, said people living in the surrounding buildings were told to leave their homes while teams worked to make the scaffolding safe.
He said there had been no reported injuries following the incident.
He tweeted: “A duty officer, @LAS_HART & an equipment support vehicle #LASESV are on standby at the unsafe scaffolding.
“There are no patients currently. Scaffolding is unsafe &@LondonFire are working to make it safe. Local residents have been evacuated.”
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at approximately 7:20am on to reports of a lorry in collision with scaffolding in Brewer Street, W1.
“As a precaution a number of residents from flats and business premises where the scaffolding was have been evacuated. There are no injuries.
“Road closures remain in place around the scene.”
