The Government Engineering College, Kottayam (RIT) Alumni Association Qatar celebrated the popular Kerala festival, Onam, as a grand event titled Poonnonam 22 with traditional fervour.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RIT), named after the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and one of the nine engineering colleges fully-owned and run by government of Kerala, started functioning in 1991. The institution has now become one of the leading technical institutes for post-graduation and research studies in Kerala.
RIT Alumni Association was established in 2004 and RIT Alumni Association Qatar (Ritaaq) in 2015 by alumni working in various sectors in the country.
Ritaaq chairman Sheffin Shahab presided, general secretary Mohammed Hashir welcomed the gathering and treasurer Rishaad Payappatta proposed a vote of thanks.
The cultural performances included Thiruvathirakali, sack race, Uriyadi, tug-of-war, a music show by leading singers from Doha and dances.
Among the highlights were the surprise gift of 55”and 50” UHD Smart TV for Ritaaq members.
