The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Affairs Department, has marked the Gulf Family Day in a bid to enhance the Gulf identity, reassure the significance of the family and work on its cohesion, and preserve the entrenched values emanating from the deep-rooted heritage.
The seventh meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs in the GCC countries recognised Sept14 as Gulf Family Day.
In her speech on this occasion, Director of the Family Affairs Department Najat al-Abdullah highlighted the policies aimed at preserving family cohesion, the concept of family cohesion, the marriage preparation programmes adopted in Qatar in addition to the strategic projects and plans.
Al-Abdullah stressed the pro-family programs and policies Qatar gives for the family as a social entity, particularly the role played by the ministry in proposing and implementing the national policies and strategies related to the care of the family and its members, the community awareness about the importance of protecting the family and its cohesion in addition to collecting and analysing family-related data and statistics.
In a speech titled "Islamic values and protecting the family," Director of Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilization (CMCC) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Dr Aisha al-Mannai affirmed that the Islamic Sharia was the basic supporter of humanitarian interests, reviewing the most significant axes and pillars of family cohesion in Islam.
