Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will begin its new season on Saturday, with a concert in which Gulf folk will meet with the Philharmonic Orchestra at Katara Opera House led by Maestro Kamoliddin Urinbaev.
According to QPO, the music will put particular emphasis on Qatar's rich maritime history with influences from the art of Fijiri, a traditional form of music associated with pearl divers and the sea.
The Philharmonics Deputy Executive Director, Nasser Sahim, composed the music for the event, with Dr Amer Jaffar and Mansour al-Mohanadi, a Qatari singer providing vocals for the performance.
Sahim said the musical work derives from the spirit of Qatari and Gulf heritage arts, especially in the Ahl al-Bahr area, which is a marine art and one of the sections of art of "Fijiri" and is called the art of "Fijiri Al-Adsani."
Sahim, the owner of the idea of this work, explained that he accompanied Dr Amer Jaffar to work together in order to present a musical work looking to develop the common Gulf folk arts in the form of an orchestral and show the forms of these valuable heritage arts for the music world with a new musical thought.
The event will include a traditional Gulf percussion group led by Dr Faisal Ibrahim al-Tamimi, composer, Qatari director and researcher in arts and Qatari folklore.
In addition, the orchestra will present a diverse program that will take the audience to the colors of Gulf folklore, where they will listen to Samriyat, Khammari and Spirit of Maqam.(QNA)
