The Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) will build better sport facilities in higher education institutions and encourage students to engage in sport activities to significantly strengthen the sport culture in the country, it was announced Tuesday.
Announcing the federation's vision and objectives at a press conference at the Qatar Olympic Committee’s headquarters, QCSF President Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Naimi said the new sports body will facilitate high education institutions to play a central role in the sports arena at both the regional and global levels. "Our vision is to build better sport activities for students of higher education institutions, namely, universities, colleges and institutes in Qatar. We are leaving no stone unturned to discover the most talented students and taking our university sports to a new level of excellence locally, regionally and internationally."
Besides Dr Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al-Naimi, the press conference was attended by QCSF Secretary General Rashid Saeed Adiba, QCSF board members: Dr Salem al-Naimi , Asmaa Mohamed al-Naimi, Hamad Saleh al-Shaibah, Sheikh Khalifa bin Khaled al-Thani, Safiya Saleh al-Sheeb, Captain Hassan Muftah al-Kuwari and Major Rashid Ali al-Tamimi along with staff from higher education institutions, sport federations and QOC.
Giving the opening speech, Dr al-Nuaimi thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for his unlimited support to the country’s amazing sport movement.
The QCSF President has also appreciated the support of HE the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani and the QOC Secretary General HE Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain to high education sport activities and their immense help that made the QCSF initiative become true.
“Our key objective is to develop sport and physical activities at the higher education institutions in a way that could significantly strengthen the sport culture and encourage the public and students to exercise sports day in day out,” said Dr al-Nuaimi.
“The QCSF is an entity acts at a complementary level to the sport activities being organised at the primary, intermediate and secondary schools throughout Schools Olympic Programme” added Dr al-Nuaimi.
He said sport will continue to play a key role in Qatar 2030 National Vision. "We aspire to see Qatar having a leading global sport status by bringing the world together through sustainable sport development.
“I’m truly proud to see our beloved country Qatar having a leading record in hosting local and international sport events” concluded Dr al-Nuaimi.
For his part, the QCSF Secretary General, Rashid Saed Mohamed gave a presentation on the QCSF’s message, vision and objectives. He said that this pioneer federation will spare no efforts to discover talented students who can support Qatar’s national teams and the sport clubs.
