Qatar announced a $2mn contribution to address the threat posed by the floating oil tanker 'Safer' off the Yemeni coast. This came in a speech delivered by Qatar's ambassador to the Netherlands Nasser bin Ibrahim al-Langawi at the high-level pledging conference for Yemen, co-sponsored by the UN and the government of the Netherlands, to address the environmental threat of 'Safer' oil tanker. Al-Langawi hailed UN's continued efforts to negotiate with the authorities in Sana'a as well as the Yemeni government regarding the floating oil tanker off the Yemeni coast, and the role played by UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen David Gressly. He also expressed sincere appreciation for the Netherlands' invitation to Qatar to participate in this conference, in order to meet the immediate need to transport oil on board the 'Safer' tanker and to avoid this environmental threat.
