The Director of Labour Relations Department at the Ministry of Labour Abdullah al-Dosari, has praised the great role that expatriate workers play in the country's renaissance and sustainable development.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the International Workers' Day, which falls on May 1 each year, al-Dosari stressed that the efforts and plans of the Ministry of Labour are continuing in terms of development in mechanisms for protecting workers' rights.
In this context, he reviewed the legislation issued by the ministry to keep pace with a safe work environment for workers and to make it more attractive to them, including but not limited to cancelling the exit permit from the country, and cancelling a no-objection certificate from the previous employer, the establishment of a workers' support and insurance fund to protect and guarantee their financial rights, promote a safe and healthy work environment, take measures to protect workers from the risks of heat stress, and other distinguished and pioneering legislation, including those concerned with occupational health and safety.
He pointed out that many international labour organisations and unions, including the International Labour Organisation, had praised Qatar's development and modernisation of its work environment, especially at the end of the last quarter of last year.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Labour takes into account any proposal in this regard.
Al-Dosari indicated that the Ministry of Labour is in continuous communication and co-ordination with companies and employers, which confirms that protecting workers and preserving their rights is a priority for the ministry, indicating in a related context that the Workers' Support Fund has already paid many dues to workers after a final ruling was issued on them by the Labour dispute settlement committees.
To conclude, he expressed his appreciation to Qatari citizens working in the private sector for their outstanding contribution to advancing sustainable development in the country and praised once again the role of expatriate workers in this regard.
