The Embassy of Vietnam in Doha recently hosted a delegation of the Vietnam - Arab Business Association to promote bilateral business relations with their Qatari counterparts, especially in the agriculture and farming areas.
Ambassador Tran Duc Hung and the delegation visited Agrico's farm in Al Khor, where they were welcomed by general manager Dr Fahad Saleh Ibrahim and given the opportunity to review the process of growing organic vegetables and mushrooms, honey production and shrimp farming.
The envoy said: "We highly appreciate the Qatari government's efforts in achieving food security by encouraging and supporting local businesses in agricultural production aligned with the national development priorities and Qatar’s 2030 vision.”
He pointed out that Vietnam is a country that produces many agricultural and aquatic products for domestic consumption and exports to many countries around the world,”
The envoy introduced Nguyen Ba Ngoc, founder and CEO of Muc Nhay Bien Dong brand (Jumping Squid in the East Sea), a start-up business with a new model in aquaculture industry, to Dr Ibrahim to study the possibility of benefiting from his new approach in the field.
Nguyen Ba Ngoc described "the waters in Qatar are calm and suitable for aquaculture. Squid is a seafood with high economic value, high productivity rate and fast growth ability. Accordingly, I would like to explore more opportunities to cooperate with Qatari businesses in researching and developing a project on breeding and farming squid in the natural environment."
Hailing from a fishery family, Nguyen Ba Ngoc stressed his strong desire to enhance the fishermen's lives and their marine ecosystem. Consequently, he conducted a series of field studies and researches on the related issues focusing on introducing a sustainable businesses model that improves the lives of the fishermen while maintaining the wellbeing of the local marine life.
"We are building a new model of squid breeding in its natural environment and help fishermen bring it to the consumers fresh through sophisticated methods of preservation that would certainly enhance its economic value. I believe that this would be highly instrumental in a marine environment like Qatar, and introduce more business opportunities for the local fishermen," stressed Nguyen Ba Ngoc
Ambassador Tran Duc Hung said: “We hope that through this trip, Muc Nhay Bien Dong Company and Agrico in particular and, the businesses in the two countries in general, will have many opportunities to exchange experiences and cooperate in the near future for the good of the two friendly countries and their people”
