Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Moussa Faki Mahamat has called on all parties in Chad, including the leaders of movements and national leaders, to apply the logic of reason and put aside differences in order to establish stability and peace in Chad, Qatar News Agency reported.
In his speech during the opening session of the Chadian peace talks in Doha on Sunday, he said now is the time for peace, and all Chadian members of the government, leaders of movements and national leaders must sincerely approach each other, with openness and concession to determine their destiny to support peace and stability in Chad.
The AUC chairperson praised Doha's hosting of these negotiations and said Qatar is not strange to its permanent efforts to bridge the rift between people, as it has a prominent role and remarkable efforts in bringing peace and settling disputes in many countries in the world in order to bring peace to Darfur and reform the situation between Eritrea and Djibouti, as well as its efforts in Somalia and Afghanistan.
He stressed that all these efforts are a motive to move forward in a comprehensive peace process in Chad, as there is a time for war and a time for peace, and whoever makes a mistake in choosing the right time is doomed to failure, and therefore the higher interest of the country must be given priority through wisdom, tolerance and abandonment of selfishness.
He stressed that the role of the African Union is to put an end to the war, as Chad witnessed many attempts to establish peace, and it is time today for everyone to work to build a serious future that includes all parties.
Mahamat clarified that peace in Chad comes through tolerance and the desire to build a new future based on justice and mutual trust among all through the prevailing of the voice of reason.
He urged all parties in Chad to work for the success of the negotiations, and said courage is not the use of weapons and murder, but lies in tolerance and work to secure the future.
He stressed that Qatar is working hard to make the consultations and negotiations between Chadians a success, and therefore all parties in Chad must abandon "old ideas" that undermined the future and consider new ideas for peace and stability, and also trust the efforts of the African Union in this context.
