Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim al-Malki-owned-and trained In the Night was ridden to a fabulous triumph by jockey Tomas Lukasek in the HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy (QA Gr 2) in the 39th Race Meeting of Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC) at the Al Rayyan Racecourse on Thursday.
HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani crowned the winners of His Highness’s Trophy. Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim al-Malki received the trophy in the presence of QREC Chairman HE Issa bin Mohamed al-Mohannadi.
In the Night made a bright start in the 2000m turf race moving in from the left and stayed steady with Qatari Gold as the pacemaker. It then fell back a bit before picking more pace and being flanked by Hellenistque. At about 500m, In the Night went with Lukasek’s call to burst ahead and leave the pack behind eventually crossing the post a good length and a half ahead. Leopards Park ended as the runner-up with Pazeer being third.
In the penultimate race, the Jaafer Cup was won by Umm Qarn’s Al Balagh who under Ronan Thomas took the 2000m Purebred Arabians’ race by a short head from Al Mirage making it a double on the day for trainer Alban de Mieulle. HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani honoured the race winners.
In the Gazwan Local Thoroughbred Conditions it was a close finish with Al Jeryan Stud’s homebred Latamah emerging on top by a quarter of a length under jockey Alberto Sanna, who doubled up on the day, for trainer M.H.K Al Attiyah.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalid bin Nasser al-Thani’s Saould Al Sulaimi completed a double in the Assy Local Purebred Arabian Conditions 1400m. The Jassim Ghazali-trained 6YO stretched clear to win by two and a quarter lengths recording a double on the day for trainer David Allan.
The Noora Racing Limited-owned & Alban de Mieulle-trained Al Gharaiyah emerged victorious in the Assy TB Plate for Fillies & Mares over 1750m. The 4YO filly saw off the challenge of Zwelela and won by a neck under Soufiane Saadi.
Hat-trick for Tembel De Pine
Sheikh Abdullah bin Mishal bin Hamad al-Thani’s Tembel De Pine completed a hat-trick, clinching the Aziz P/A Handicap by a neck from Umm Bab. Ridden by Marco Casamento the 5YO recorded a double on the day for trainer Mohamed Ghazali.
Earlier, Owaida Salem Al Hajri saddled the winner of the Ebraz Thoroughbred Handicap (0-80) as the Khaled Ali al-Shahwani-owned Random Decision under Alberto Sanna, took the 1500m race by a neck from Amenable.
The Djendel Novice Plate went to the Jassim M Al Darwish-owned & Mohammed Ghazali-trained Ranan. Under David Allan, the 5YO just got the better of AJS Soghan to win the a 1400m race for Local Purebred Arabians by a head in a thrilling finish.
The day’s big action began with a very close finish in the Mared Al Sahra Premium Purebred Arabians Maiden Plate with HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani-owned & Rudy Nerbonne-trained Wadeeah edging out Alarish by a short head under Rashid Al Saaq.
